State Games of Michigan Volunteer Sign-up 2024

The Grand Rapids Pickleball Club thanks you for volunteering for the State Games of Michigan at Belknap Park, 30 Coldbrook Dr. NE, Grand Rapids, MI.  With your help, the SGOM will be a successful tournament.  We hope you enjoy the experience.  When you arrive at Belknap to volunteer, please check in at the Volunteer Tent before beginning your assignment.

 

Volunteer Descriptions

Announcers - Lori Mann/Volunteer Captain   Announce winners, awards, and sponsors. Help with medal presentation if needed.

Area Referee - BobTrout/Volunteer Captain     This position will cover 4-6 courts to help the round-robin groups get organized and started, ensure the scores are recorded properly, answer rule questions, make decisions on rules/judgment conflicts, and make rulings/calls on actions that you actually saw, such as in/out calls, illegal serves, foot faults, etc. Preference will be given to people who are certified referees or have taken recent referee training. These positions will be paid $30/3 hr shift.

Facilities Maintenance - Todd Emery, Rich Abel, John Chronowski, Connie Brooks, Jason Meadows, and Jeff Trimble/Volunteer Co-Captains     Keep courts clean, check on Porta-Jon supplies, do basic court maintenance, and empty trash cans when full. Refill containers with ice and water throughout the day.

First Aid - Nikki Hoort and Jenny Byxbe/Volunteer Co-Captains    Requirements; Medical background, CPR certification, and knowing how to use an AED. Assist injured players and administer first aid during the tournament.  This position will be paid $50 per shift.

First Aid Medical Assistant - Nikki Hoort and Jenny Byxbe/ Volunteer Co-Captains    No medical background is needed. Will assist the medical worker at the first aid tent: bring supplies to court, pass out band-aids/water, may help with minor cuts/scratches, etc.

National Anthem - Kristen Trieu/Volunteer Captain    Sing the National Anthem at the beginning of each day.

Registration Desk - Carla Walker and Cari Brooks/Volunteer Co-captains    Help the athletes check in on a laptop, hand out gift bags, answer general questions, and answer questions in regards to how the tournament is going to run.

Score Recorders and Award Presentation - John Frizzo and Pam Dykstra/Volunteer Co-Captains    Must have knowledge of Round Robin format and scoring. Record scores for 1-4 pools/monitor play on 5-7 courts. Help with starting games in a timely manner. Collect results and deliver them to the tournament desk. Present the medals/awards to the winners of each bracket, take a photo for the club and send them via email or text. 

Set-up Crew - Tom Miller/Volunteer Captain     Clean courts that need it. If you have a gas blower bring it along. Help set up tents, distribute ice, fill water coolers and place in proper locations, set up tables and chairs, measure net heights, and make sure new balls are on each court.

Tear-down Crew - Jordan DeWeerd/Volunteer Captain     Help put away everything that can not be left out overnight, tents/tables/chairs/etc. On the tournament's final day, you will be taking down everything and helping with clean-up.

Volunteer Tent - Nikki Hoort and Patricia Wheeler/Volunteer Captain     Check-in volunteers, set up and clean up refreshments for volunteers. Explain to volunteers their duties (a written explanation will be provided to you for each task.)
